Ward boundaries in shapefile
Not sure if this exists already but all I could find were JPEGs and PDFs of the ward boundaries. If anyone can point me to a .shp, I'd be grateful.
Thanks,

There is a KML file http://ottawa.ca/googlemaps/kml/wards.kml

This KML is a mess. It's made of polylines, not polygons, so tough to figure out which ward is which.

I am in the process of converting the KML file to a polygon shapefile. Should be done in the next couple days.

We just posted the ward boundaries in SHP format on our http://ottawa.ca/onlineservices/opendata/info/indexen.html
We've also added voting locations and subdivisions if those are of interest.

Thanks, Robert. Glad to see this added to the list.

Does anyone know why all the ward names are in CAPS? Can we get the names changed to mixed-case?

Hi Matthew, we're putting in the request for mixed-case. Not sure if there's a specific reason yet.
Thank-you,

ah man - i just spent 2 hours figuring out how to convert the damn SHP files to KML.

I used http://www.shpescape.com/ to do the translation for me from SHP. It generates a Google Fusion table, which you can then export as a KML. A bit slow, but pretty easy.

You can download Qgis, a great open-source GIS app which imports shapefiles and export to KML. If you don't like the case, run the KML through a text editor with a change case function (or GREP)

Our Surveys and Mapping team are now going to post KML and DWG formats for all of the data sets they have posted and will post SHP, KML, and DWG formats for any future data sets they post (should be some new ones coming shortly).
